FAQs

PPC stands for pay-per-click. This means you pay every time your ad is clicked on.
Paid media is a form of digital marketing that involves placing ads on different platforms, from search engines to social networks.

How does paid media work?

Paid media means placing ads on different channels in order to gain more visibility online and get buyers on your site. It works differently for each channel, but generally you pay per click (hence PPC marketing) or per a specific number of impressions.

There are various formats available. You can choose paid search ads, video ads, display ads, etc. Most social media platforms support ads, and so do search engines like Google, Bing and YouTube. What campaign you’ll opt for depends on your budget, business type and revenue goals.

What are the benefits of paid media?

Through paid advertising, you get a number of benefits. The first one is usually a solid return on investment, when campaigns are well structured.

Other benefits include:

  • Higher reach online

  • Measurable results

  • Easy targeting for the best results

  • Higher engagement rate

  • Cost-effectiveness

  • Increased brand awareness

What’s the difference between owned, earned and paid media?

Now that you know what paid media is, let’s go into owned and earned media.

Owned media refers to the content that’s under your own control. This is the content you create on your website, social profiles, in newsletters, etc. It’s basically anything that comes from you.

Earned media is the content others create about you. These can be reviews, social media posts, articles, etc. That’s why it’s called earned media – it’s created by others about you, without your influence, control or payment. It’s content that you earned through your services, products, customer support etc. to be made about you.

Any kind of content can be either earned, owned or paid. It all comes down to whether you influenced it or how much. For example, a PR article is owned if you paid for it to be created, but if someone wrote it without any input from you, it’s earned.
